Harlequin RIP Features & Benefits

Easy to Configure
If you have a mixed workflow and receive files in more than one format you don’t need to learn different tools for color management, trapping, transparency or screening when using the Harlequin RIP. The software gives you the ability to print across the network to the RIP through shared printers which means faster output times and less hassle trying to resave jobs into different applications.

PostScript® Level 3
Support for PostScript® Level 3 means compatibility with the latest design and printing applications.

PDF v.1.7
Support for PDF v.1.7, PDF/X-4, PDF/X-1a, JPEG2000, optional content, cross-reference streams, compressed object streams and 16-bit images.
PDF v.1.7 Information

XPS
Support for XPS v.1.0 Documents with PrintTickets (DocumentPageRanges, PageBlendColorSpace, PageMediaSize and PageResolution).

JDF
Job Definition Format (JDF) is an XML-based file format that is becoming the industry standard for the definition of electronic job tickets in prepress workflows.
JDF Information

Supported File Types
For users that are not printing to the RIP through a shared printer, the RIP or workflow can process the following file types directly or through a shared spoolfolder (drop folder):
• PostScript 1, 2 and 3
• PDF 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7
• PDF/X-4, PDF/X-1a:2001 and PDF/X-3:2002
• XPS
• WDP HD Photos
• TIFF™ 6
• PCL
• JPEG, GIF, EPS, JBIG2
• DCS and DCS 2
• JDF

Harlequin Precision Screening
Every RTI Harlequin RIP includes Harlequin Precision Screening (HPS). When placing color separations on top of one another, the angles and frequencies at which those separations are produced should be calculated very accurately to eliminate moiré patterns. To reduce moiré patterning, HPS uses an adaptive screening technique that can adjust each halftone dot so that it is placed within one half pixel of its ideal location.

Separations and Screening
The RIP allows you to control and manage resolutions, line screens (frequency), screen angles and dot shapes.
Separations and Screening Information

Calibration Manager
Calibrate your imagesetter, platesetter, proofer or printing press using the software's built-in calibration tool.

Advanced Media Saving
Automatically gangs (nests) smaller jobs together saving you time and consumables.

Multi-threading
The Harlequin RIP now takes advantage of hyperthreading, multi-core and multiple CPU architectures for faster processing times.

Page Features
Controls for Scaling, Crop Marks, Mirror Image (Reverse), Negative Image and Rotation.

Preflight Profiles
Enfocus PitStop 4.0 lib/v7 preflight profiles are included with the Harlequin RIP.
Preflight Profiles Information

Control Strip
Included with every RIP and workflow is an overprint control strip for checking that proofs and prints made from files transmitted as PDF/X have rendered correctly.

The Harlequin RIP produces TIFF files which are compatible with TIFF 5.0, Classes B (bilevel), G (gray scale), and R (RGB color). CMYK color separations are also supported as defined in the published TIFF 6.0 specification. Users can also set the compression format for TIFF files being output from the RIP using one of the following compression formats: None, CCITT Huffman, CCITT Group 3 (CCITT G3, CCITT T.4), CCITT Group 4 (CCITT G4, CCITT T.6), LZW or Packbits. Convert XPS or PDF files to separated or composite TIFF files using the RTI Harlequin RIP. TIFF Output can often be used with a variety of platesetters, TIFF catchers or used to send pre-screened files to other RIPs or workflow systems. Most of the devices listed below are available with a TIFF catcher that allow them to accept a TIFF file from the Harlequin RIP. If you already have a Harlequin RIP v.4.5 or later driving one of the devices listed below you can also output TIFF files to your existing RIP software giving you compatibility with the latest applications. If you do not have a TIFF catcher or need to drive an imagesetter or platesetter directly please visit our Imagesetter & Platesetter RIP-Kits page.
